Focus

April 1, 2020 by Carolee Horning

We are in unprecedented times.  The unknown causes fear, anxiety, depression, and a host of other emotions and thoughts.  There are many ways to look at these times or to try and figure out perhaps what the lesson is.

I personally believe now is the best time to take a pause, reset, and reflect.  Be mindful of the present moment in a positive way.  If you usually work in an office all day, maybe this is the moment you can pause and feel the sun on your face?  You can do that puzzle you’ve had in the closet for four years and finally have the time and energy to complete it.  Write someone a letter by hand and mail it, to surprise a loved one.  The point is, instead of focusing on the “what if’s” and the fear and feeding that anxiety, snub your nose at it and find the gratitude and the positives.  It can be done.

Anxiety is often increased when we feel a lack of control.  We can only control our own thoughts, our own behaviors, and our own emotions.  Are you doing the best you can?  Because that is all you can do.  Don’t beat yourself up. The world has a way of doing that on its own.  Be gentle with yourself.
